How Much Does a Logo Cost in 2026?

What small businesses actually pay for a logo, option by option, with sources. Plus a free brief you can use with any designer.

Short answer: a small business in the US usually pays between $250 and $2,000 for a professionally designed logo in 2026. Logo makers and AI tools cost under $200 but give you something thousands of other businesses can also have. Branding agencies start around $3,000 and often go past $10,000, because they sell strategy and a full identity system, not only the mark.

This guide lays out what each option actually costs, what you get for the money, and the questions to ask before you pay anyone, including us. The prices were checked in October 2026 and every outside figure links to where it came from.

Logo design prices by option (2026)

Option Typical price What you get Watch out for
AI generators and logo makers $0–$200 A template-based mark in minutes No exclusivity, weak trademark position, files may be low resolution
Design contests $249–$1,050+ Many concepts from different designers, you pick one Quality varies a lot; check that the winner hands over source files
Freelance designer $300–$2,000 One designer, a direct relationship Depends entirely on that person’s skill and availability
Design studio (fixed packages) $170–$500 (our packages) A team, set turnaround, packaged deliverables Read exactly how many concepts and revisions are included
Branding agency $3,000–$10,000+ Research, strategy, naming, full identity system and guidelines More than most small businesses need on day one

Sources: AI, freelancer and agency ranges from ManyPixels’ 2026 logo cost guide; contest tiers from DDIY’s 99designs pricing breakdown; freelance hourly rates from Upwork’s graphic designer cost page. The studio row is our own published package range, from Logo Basic to Mascot Logo.

Freelancers: hourly rate vs project price

Upwork puts the median graphic designer rate at $15–$35 an hour, with experienced designers charging up to $150. A logo usually takes 5 to 20 hours, so a quote that is far below that range is either recycling templates or skipping the research step. A good freelancer will usually quote a fixed project price rather than hours, which is easier for you to budget.

What pushes the price up

  • Number of concepts. Three directions cost less than ten.
  • Illustration. Mascots, hand-drawn marks and 3D logos take far longer than a wordmark.
  • Revisions. “Unlimited revisions” and “two rounds” are very different deals.
  • Extras. Business cards, letterheads, social media kits, brand guidelines and animated versions are often sold separately.
  • Turnaround. Rush delivery usually costs more, unless it is part of the package.

Seven questions to ask before you pay

  1. Will I own the copyright, in writing, once the project is paid?
  2. Will I receive vector source files (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF), not only PNG and JPEG?
  3. Is the design original, or built from a template or stock icon?
  4. How many concepts and how many revision rounds are included?
  5. Does the logo work in one colour, on dark backgrounds and at very small sizes?
  6. What happens if I don’t like any of the first concepts?
  7. Is the price a one-time payment, or is there a subscription?

If a provider can’t answer yes to the first three, keep looking, whatever the price.
